Customer Objectives

One of the UK’s largest ice manufacturers was experiencing unscheduled and unnecessary downtime in their plant’s processing area. The existing metal belt had a working life of just 18 months and required frequent, costly maintenance. The belt’s repeated mistracking issues not only damaged the conveyor frame, but also regularly led to three to four hours of downtime for repairs.

Intralox Execution

Building upon extensive experience with Intralox products throughout other areas of their facility, the ice manufacturer approached us to identify a more durable and reliable alternative. We recommended our Series 1700 Metal Detectable Flush Grid belt, which could be retrofitted to the existing conveyor frame with little to no modifications.

Results

The new, metal-detectable nylon belt material eliminated the mistracking, conveyor frame damage, and downtime issues presented by the ice manufacturer’s previous belt. The belt also improved airflow around the product and removed the risk of product contamination from pieces of broken metal belting. This has resulted in smoother operations, superior product quality, lower maintenance costs, and greater plant productivity.
